Big Bend and Nature Coast

Redfish, snook, and trout are the top three species to target today in the Big Bend and Nature Coast. The strong 4.8 foot tide swing is pushing bait and making these fish active around the passes and grass flats in Steinhatchee, Cedar Key, Crystal River, Homosassa, and St. Marks. Flounder are also scoring high, but harvest is closed statewide so they are catch and release only. The best fishing window is the major solunar period from 2:31 PM to 4:31 PM, which lines up well with the afternoon high tide at 6:41 PM. Another solid shot is the early morning major from 2:31 AM to 4:31 AM. The weather is calm with no rain expected, but keep an eye on the northeast wind gusts up to 18 mph if you are running open water. Tip: Focus on the moving water during the tide change for the best redfish action.
